Course Aim

The course aims to equip nurses with advanced nursing competencies, empowering them to deliver comprehensive, compassionate care to individuals with life-limiting illnesses and to support their families with sensitivity and confidence.

In order to reinforce clinical practice, participants are required to attend in-person contact sessions focused on experiential learning, under guided mentorship at an authorized palliative care unit.

Course Objectives

This course seeks to:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of palliative care principles and the ability to conduct comprehensive assessments to identify symptoms and patient needs.
  • Cultivate effective communication skills to support empathetic and compassionate interactions with patients and their families.
  • Strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to navigate complex clinical scenarios and address ethical dilemmas in palliative care practice.
Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments : Perform a thorough physical, psychosocial, and spiritual assessment for patients with life-limiting illnesses during the supervised contact sessions.
  2. Manage complex symptoms effectively: Develop individualized care plans addressing pain, breathlessness, fatigue, and other distressing symptoms in at least 80% of observed clinical scenarios by the end of the course.
  3. Demonstrate effective communication: Confidence in handling family meetings using structured communication models (e.g., SPIKES, NURSE) to deliver difficult news or explore goals of care.
  4. Apply ethical and clinical reasoning in decision-making : Confidence in Identifying and analyzing challenging cases.
  5. Work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams: Improved team work with multi-disciplinary team, contributing nursing perspectives to the care planning process.
  6. Reflect on personal and professional growth: deepened understanding of holistic patient care, enhanced personal confidence in handling complex clinical situations, strengthened compassion and resilience as a nurse, and all the more strengthened personal care, enabling a more meaningful impact in the lives of patients and their families.

  • Structured blended learning over 6 months
    Carefully curated content combining online learning at your pace, fortnightly live sessions, assessments, and clinical practice.
  • Dedicated mentors
    One-on-one guidance to support learning, clinical application, and reflective practice.
  • 2 live synchronized sessions per month
    Facilitated by experienced faculty to enhance interaction and contextual understanding.
  • 5 days of supervised clinical attachment
    Supervised clinical attachments under an expert Palliative Care Nurses at an APM-approved center, designed to build hands-on experience.
  • Accreditation and Endorsement:
    The course is delivered in collaboration with two of India’s most respected nursing organizations — the Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI) and the Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing Association, India (HPNA). The certification issued upon completion is jointly endorsed by TNAI and HPNA, reflecting its alignment with national nursing standards and its recognition by leading professional bodies. This endorsement ensures that the course meets rigorous educational benchmarks and supports career advancement within the field of palliative care nursing. These sessions not only enhance academic engagement but also build practical skills essential for delivering high-quality palliative care in diverse clinical settings across India.
Target Audience
  • Minimum qualification is GNM / BSc Nursing. Nursing professionals across specialties involved in caring for patients with life-limiting illnesses.
Attendance & Participation
  • A minimum of 75% attendance is required for both online and offline components.
  • Active participation in discussions, case presentations, and group activities is mandatory.
  • Remain active on platform with videos on is mandatory.
Assessment & Certification
  • Each module comprises online tests, assignments, peer discussions, and a final end of Module Test.
  • Final evaluation criteria: 70% from summative assessments

Certificates of Completion will be awarded only upon:

  • Meeting attendance requirements
  • Completing all assignments
  • Satisfying assessment criteria
How to Join The Session
Sessions will be through the Learning Management System(LMS) – LoveMySkool’s ZOOM application . Once you get the login credentials of the LMS, you will be guided on how to attend the session.
