Research in Palliative Medicine
Research in Palliative Medicine is a rapidly evolving field of medicine that focuses on providing compassionate and supportive care to patients with serious illnesses. It encompasses a wide range of topics, including symptom management, communication with patients and families, end-of-life care, caregiver support, and healthcare systems and policies. Research can help to identify best practices for providing high-quality palliative care, and can inform the development of new interventions and strategies to improve care for seriously ill patients.
We invite you to explore this page to learn more about the latest research in palliative medicine, as well as our Academy’s efforts to advance research in this field. Together, we can work towards a future where all seriously ill patients receive the best possible care, and where the field of palliative medicine continues to evolve and grow.

Needs Assessment Survey
The 2015 Quality of Death Index found that palliative care provision in India is poor due to a lack of trained physicians. To address this, a nation-wide standardized course is needed to train both primary care physicians and non-palliative medicine specialists. Hence the Academy of Palliative Medicine undertook a needs assessment study across India to explore the learning needs of these groups.
